LUNCH CLUB
Shirley Neighbourhood Care lunch clubs take place every Monday and Thursday at West Wickham & Shirley Baptist Church on Wickham Road in Shirley CR0 8EH. Clients enjoy a 3 course cooked hot meal consisting of soup, a main course and a pudding followed by tea and coffee. The food is cooked by our resident chef, Tanya, and includes delicious dishes. Volunteers help to look after the clients and serve the lunch. Places need to be booked in advance and there may be a waiting list for space. Please telephone 0208 662 9599 if you are interested. The cost of the lunch club will be £10 per person from 1 March 2024. Clients who are eligible for Dial-A-Ride can book transport to and from the lunch club.
SHOPPING BUS
Our Shopping Bus will collect you from your home, take you shopping with the wonderful assistance of our volunteers who can also help carry your shopping. You will then be dropped back to your home and our volunteers can help get your shopping inside if needed. The Shopping Bus goes to Sainsbury’s on West Wickham High Street in the mornings, where you are collected between 9-10am and dropped home between 11am12pm. We go to Tesco in Elmers End in the afternoons where you are collected between 12-1pm and dropped home between 3-4pm. During the visit to Tesco we
spend time in the Costa Coffee located in the store to enjoy a hot drink, cake and a good chat! The trip is £7 per person and we will call you the day before to confirm if you would like to come to either Sainsbury’s or Tesco. MEDICAL TRANSPORT
SNC can provide volunteer drivers to take clients to medical appointments such as the doctors, opticians, clinics, chiropody and local hospitals. The volunteer can wait, or come back later for the return journey, dependent on the length of the appointment. Trips should be booked through the office and the volunteer driver will ring the client the day before to confirm the appointment. Clients usually make a donation in return for the service.
OUTINGS
SNC organises regular outings. We visit garden centres, tea shops and restaurants and pubs for lunch and details are distributed in our regular newsletter which is delivered by our volunteers to all our clients on a quarterly basis. There is usually a charge of between £5 and £10 for travel per outing and clients settle their own refreshment bills. Prices will vary according to the distance and detail of the outing.
FILM CLUB
Come and see the latest films in a comfortable setting at Shirley Methodist Church with refreshments included. Thanks to Shirley’s Councillors, we now have state-of-the-art equipment with a big screen and great sound! The price is £6 per client with an additional £5 if transport is required.
